This is going to sound weird to some people but when I watched this movie I really had a hard time being able to express what I felt about it. Now I am a very opinionated person, not just in movies but in every part of my life much and my wife is not stoked about that. So we have this movie, a direct sequel to the first Sharknado, and this time they really had to try to outdo the first. The expectation in this was that they had to do that, if it was on par with the last one it actually would have been a flop.
After the events of the first film two things apparently happened in the lives of Fin Shepard and April Wexler. The first being that they were moving back to New York and that she decided that she had to write a book about the events of the last film. We don’t even make it to the city before sharks start appearing and the rest of the film is the crazy nonsense that you would expect from this type of movie. Now, the best part of all of this to me is an injury to April which made it so that she was out of a good portion of the movie.
This movie doesn’t have actors for the most part… it has cameos. This was a horrible decision because some of the short lived cameos would have actually done better in main roles than some of the actors. For example Kelly Osbourne is just awful, I have no clue why they decided to give her a speaking role instead of giving it to someone who actually deserves it. Here is the full list of all the cameos.
Kelly Osbourne, Kelly Oxford, Robert Hays, The Naked Cowboy, Matt Lauer, Andy Dick, Downtown Julie Brown, Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sandra “Pepa” Denton, Tiffany Shepis, Al Roker, Judd Hirsch, Judah Friedlander, Thomas P. Vitale, Richard Kind, Anthony C Ferrante, Perez Hilton, Jared Fogle, Benjy Bronk, Daymond John, Biz Markie, Robert Klein, Kurt Angle, Michael Gelman, Will Wheaton.
How the heck was all of this a good idea?
The effects and blood were terrible as they were in the last movie but that shouldn’t be a surprise. I really don’t even know what else to say, the best they had some prostatic work on Tiffany Shepis. I’m sure there were a heck of a lot more that I missed but there was so much going on I had no clue where to look.
The good and the bad were the cameos. I felt like some of them were good and they fit the film well while others stood out too much and frankly they sucked. Best examples of good ones are Will Wheaton who most people missed because it was low key enough and Shepis because she is awesome. I know that is biased but she felt more like a actually character than cameo. The worst is Jared from freaking Subway and Osbourne.
Yeah watch this one…. See what the hype is all about and search out the rules for the drinking game. Now if you do that just be careful because I believe that for every cameo you spot you have to finish your drink and if you do that you will be in the hospital. That being said this should be an event. Get a lot of people together and enjoy it together because it will be a lot more fun than how I watched it. I couldn’t find people to watch it with me, my movie group were all our of the area so I was stuck watching it alone and I didn’t have a whole lot of fun.
